Candle Care 101
We all see the warning label on our candles, but do we actually read them? Well I am here to stress that you do. For the love of the air you breath, read the labels!!! Also, there is some info you may want to know in order to get the most from your candles.
1) FUNNY BUT NOT: Trim your wicks before every relight!!! TRIM YOUR WICKS! Why you may ask? When you blow out a candle there is the burned wick which has carbon build up from burning. Some wicks may have balls or chunks on the wicks after blowing out. You want to cut those away for safety reasons. I personally did not do this and enjoyed listening to the carbon balls crack as I lit a candle one day. Well one of those bad boys popped off the wick and landed on a plastic make up holder in my room, it was like a foot away. Next thing I knew things were on fire and alarms were going off. … so learn from my mistake, TRIM YOUR WICKS! It also helps to reduce soot and carbon burn.
2) BASICS: Never leave your candles unattended. Never leave them around pets or children. Burn your candles on a flat, even, fire resistant surface away from other items that could invade the space of your flame in order to prevent accidents. If your candle flame is “dancing” wildly or the container is too hot, blow out your candle, let it cool, and trim the wick before you light it again.
3) GOOD TO KNOW: Something I did not know about candles, but you should is that it is best to allow your candle to burn 1 hour per 1 inch of diameter of container. example: my 9 oz candles are 3.25 inches in diameter - you would want to burn it about of 3hr and 15 min to reach a full wax pool. You want to let the wax pool reach all the way to the side of your candle and about 1/4 inch down for best results throughout the life of your candle. Doing this helps ensure that there is an even burn all the way down the container.
